#197: Sexual Assault Awareness Month: Tracey Noe Slach and the Mission of Clove Alliance

Today, we’re diving into a conversation that touches on empowerment, support, and community resilience. As we mark April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we’re proud to feature an episode centered on the vital work of Clove Alliance in our tri-county area.

Unifying for a Cause

Our guest, Tracey Noe Slach, Executive Director of Clove Alliance, joined us to shed light on the transformative journey of her organization. Previously known as KC-CASA, the rebranding to Clove Alliance occurred four years ago, signaling a unified mission across Kankakee, Iroquois, and Ford counties. “We needed a brand that unifies what we do,” Tracey explained. Clove stands for Counseling, Advocacy, Prevention, and ultimately, the Survivorโ€”the four pillars of their core mission.

Support Systems for Survivors

During our conversation, Tracey outlined the comprehensive support systems Clove Alliance provides for individuals affected by sexual violence. From advocacy services that guide survivors through medical and legal procedures to counseling services available in various formats, the organization’s reach is extensive. “It’s really keeping the survivor in our community foremost in our minds,” Tracy emphasized.

Education as a Tool for Change

Education plays a pivotal role in ending sexual violence, as Clove Alliance actively engages with communities through body safety training and public outreach. “If you or yourself haven’t been affected, someone you know and love has,” a statement Tracy shared, highlighting the importance of awareness and prevention in changing societal norms.

The Complexity of Cases

Navigating the complexities of sexual assault cases demands expertise and compassion. Despite Clove Alliance’s robust systems, challenges remain, with advocates often carrying caseloads of 20 to 30 individuals. “It can be overwhelming, but our focus is supporting the survivor however they need,” Tracey noted.

Mobilizing Community Support

Tracey also touched on the funding crucial for their operations, derived from state and federal sources, as well as community contributions. “We’re constantly having fundraisers, and all local support is necessary,” she said.

Unified Vision for a Safer Future

In closing, our conversation with Tracey illuminated the vital work Clove Alliance is doing to create safer, more informed communities. Their story is a testament to the power of unity, education, and support in overcoming the stigma associated with sexual violence.
